With everything going on in the world from the ongoing pandemic to the protests and riots across the country and the world artists of all types found themselves in an unfamiliar space. With the inability to travel, having concerts and shows cancelled not to mention the social climate and unrest creativity and sources of inspiration seemed few and far between. What’s more is that they seemed to and needed to take a back seat to more pressing concerns. Every artist dealt with the new challenges their own way. For me personally there came a point that I felt compelled to make a difference. Taking part in social injustice protests opened my eyes to many things that previously were easily overlooked or ignored.
Music for me has always been many things. It has been a source of refuge, a place to vent or uplift. Music also brings us together. People of differing race, creed, color, backgrounds, and opinions can all be of like mind when gathered for the single purpose of being part of the same musical experience. The energy that is created through music is undeniable and so very powerful. It can be a tool used to tear down or to build up. It can inspire or incite and so with the mounting negativity affecting us all I wanted to create a song that had a positive message to help turn the tide. After coming to the realization that WE are the ones that are left over, and that WE are the ones that are going to have to come together, pick up the pieces and rebuild our world I titled the song Remnant. What followed is a song of inspiration and motivation.
When it came time to put vocals to the track, I happened upon a new artist EVeryman. A fellow West Coaster multi-talent from the LA area he was the perfect fit for this song. His energy, message of positivity and hope was exactly what I was looking for, and what all of us are desperately in need of. I encourage all listeners to seek out his music and videos here:

For this particular song several of his lines are very impactful to me:
From the second verse: "The trick is not to hold on yo it’s to let go Then to move on EVERY day improve on Reach your goals and keep on Then you just say We motivate Collaborate like every single day"
With the social and political turmoil in my own city these lyrics from the bridge are very meaningful: "No matter the place No matter the time We sending the vibes Cause the music unites! Yeah we lovin’ the ride Cause we here to preside Be our own mayors Govern ourselves Cause we be the lawsayers!"
From the final verse this sums it all up: "When things go wrong as they sometimes will When the road that you’re trudging seems all up hill When the funds are low and the debts are high And you want to smile but you have to sigh Rest if you must but don’t you quit!"
And so for everyone out there fighting the good fight no matter the movement or the cause; whoever you are or where you come from this song is for you.
